Alfred Sirleaf, a citizen journalist, set up a large chalk billboard called the Daily Talk at Monrovia’s busiest intersection to curate the news for passing Liberians, many of whom cannot afford newspapers or web access. The Accountability Lab helped him create a civic education section on the Daily Talk, with information on everything from how to follow traffic regulations to how to register a business. His goal is to provide a reliable daily service to disseminate important news, announcements, and public service information. An estimated 10,000 people walk past the board every day, and we’ve helped him prepare the groundwork to set up chalk billboards in other key locations.
