John, 31, grew up in a mining concession area. He saw firsthand the harm and suffering caused when mining companies abused their position and community members didn’t know their rights. Today, he is helping a similar mining concession area avoid the same fate. His project aims to clarify the roles, responsibilities, and rights of the host community, the mining company, and the government by tracking the company’s activity and holding it to account. He plans to gather data and information and share it with the community at town hall meetings. A researcher, John holds a masters of diplomacy and law in treaty processing.
