Building accountability into environmental sustainability in Nigeria

Written by Inayat Sabhikhi   When Mujidah Ajibola Oladejo and I spoke in the last week of October, Nigeria was in the international news for the people’s movement against police brutality, to #EndSARS. For an activist like her this is both a new and old story - a new spin to an old tale.  “We have just asked for very basic human rights, to end police brutality, and now the government is rubbing salt in our wounds by saying that there are no casualties. I don’t know what can be worse than that.” As an accountapreneur invested in making Nigerian [...]

Sustainability is an Accountability Issue

Mujidah Ajibola Oladejo is the Founder of environmental advocacy organization The Sustainability Hub and a new addition to our group of accountapreneurs with Accountability Lab Nigeria. Kibo Ngowi spoke to her to find out how her journey as a sustainability advocate began and what she hopes to achieve with the support of Accountability Lab Nigeria’s Incubator Program. Mujidah’s passion for sustainability began eight years ago on what seemed like an ordinary day in Lagos. On this occasion Mujidah and her four-year old son Jubril left her parents’ house in Ibadan and drove to Lagos to pick up her elder sister [...]

Intern Insights: Thukten Lama

On International Youth Day, we wanted to share how interns joining our team are also learning along with us. Here are Thukten’s reflections on what he has been learning from his internship at Accountability Lab Nepal this summer. On the second week of July, while Nepal was busy with the countdown to the Euro Cup finals and the release of the movie Sultan, a few like-minded people working in the social sector put aside their daily tasks and gathered in cafe in Lazimpath. The gathering was the second session of the Accountability Incubator, a flagship program of Accountability Lab, where the [...]

In mid-January, the Lab was lucky enough to be in Mumbai for a conference hosted by various programs at Stanford University and the University of Mumbai. The discussions brought together over 100 social activists, change-makers, donors, thinkers and ICT-experts for two days of discussions about the ideas and tools that can improve governance through the use of technology. We learned a huge amount about how to creatively engage citizens in accountability and [...]
